Ageing Illustrator

This portrait of a rather decrepit and down-at-heel illustrator was done for inclusion in the 2004 Terry Pratchett calendar. It's digital and, for software fans, was done in Painter. I think anyone who knows the program will know just what's going on here.

The Tea Party

This was a private commission for a client who wanted himself and his wife and daughter painted as characters from Alice in Wonderland. The photography session was entertaining. If you've ever tried to photograph small children you know what I mean. Emily was quite "active" shall we say. It was also important to get the dogs in. They seem to know what's going on.

Herbert van Thal

A private commission. Van Thal was the editor of the legendary Pan Books of Horror, the first of which has recently been republished. There wasn't much reference material to go on as photos of Van Thal seem few and far between, but I absolutely loved doing this. I really must do more portraits.

Peter Cushing

Personal piece. I can't remember why I drew this except that it was around the time of Peter Cushing's death. I do remember having some trouble with it however. You would think that such a distinctive face would be easy to draw but it took me some time to get the likeness right.

Cover for a birthday book for Steve Jones on his 50th. Edited by Val Edwards, designed by Michael Marshall Smith and printed by PS Publishing. Steve is a big fan of the Universal Monsters and knows just about all there is to know about them. I tried to make this look a bit like a Famous Monsters cover.
